Q: What is Mediterranean Food?
A: Mediterranean is the cuisine of the areas around the Mediterranean Sea (Greece, Israel, Lebanon, Morocco, Syria, southern France, parts of Italy, etc.) that emphasizes fruits and vegetables, nuts, grains, olive oil and grilled or steamed meats.

The diet can vary based on the region, as what is eaten varies significantly from one Mediterranean country to another. There also are major differences in diet between some regions within a country, as in Italy. However, the shared features of what is usually spoken of as the Mediterranean-style diet are as follows:
  • High consumption of fruits, vegetables, bread and other cereals, beans, nuts and seeds
  • Olive oil
  • Dairy products, fish and poultry are consumed in low to moderate amounts
  • Common foods include hummus, falafel, pita, etc.
There are many studies that show a variety of health benefits from a Mediterranean diet.
Q: What are Garbanzo Beans?
A: Also known as Chickpeas, they are a small, roundish legume that are firm in texture that can be eaten cold, cooked or ground to form falafel or spreads like hummus.
Q: What is falafel?
A: Garbanzo beans ground with fresh herbs and spices and made into a crispy ball.
Q: What is Shwarma?
A: Marinated steak or chicken with spices.
Q: What is Falarma?
A: Combination of falafel and Shwarma.
Q: What is Hummus?
A: Spread made of ground garbanzo beans, olive oil, tahini and spices.
Q: What is Tahini?
A: Smooth spread of sesame seeds, lemon juice, and spices.
Q: What is Pita?
A: Round white or wheat flour flatbread (thin tortilla type style ) that is opened to form a pocket for filling.
Q: What is Laffa?
A: Thin disk of unleavened bread made from white flour and baked on a hot surface
Q: What is Tagine?
A: A Tagine is a Mediterranean dish that is named after the special earthenware pot in which it is cooked. Tagines are typically slow-cooked stews braised at low temperatures, resulting in tender meat with aromatic vegetables and sauce.

Q: I already get your Bean Mail, am I a VIB?

Q: I don't live in Denver, so I can't get to a Garbanzo, can I join anyway?
A: You have to actually pick up a loyalty card at the store in order to join. Sounds like a great reason to plan a trip to Denver and come see us!
Q: Once I have my card scanned, am I signed up?
A: No, you have to fill out either the paper application at Garbanzo, or click the tomato on the right to do it online.
Q: What if I only want to get emails?
A: Just click the tomato on the left and you can sign up for Bean Mail only.
Q: What do I need to register for the VIB loyalty club?
A: You need to get a gift card from any Garbanzo location and have a cashier swipe it. Once your card has been swiped, you can register at the store or online.
